The NIH Director’s Early Independence Award (DP5 activity code) allows exceptional junior scientists to bypass traditional postdoctoral training and launch independent labs soon after receiving their terminal research degree or completing their postgraduate clinical training. This award is part of NIH’s High-Risk, High-Reward Research Program.
